Jameson (Max) Clements

M.S. Statistics student at the University of Virginia · Research Assistant at the Virginia Transportation Research Council

I apply statistics, machine learning, geospatial analysis, economics, and software development to public infrastructure problems. My current work spans transportation safety, transportation scenario planning, decarbonized energy-system control, and spatial model validation.

Current research

  • Transportation safety: First-author TRB 2027 manuscript on observed crash rates for downstream access review at signalized intersections in Virginia.
  • Infrastructure decision support: Developing planner-facing software that makes VisionEval scenario planning more accessible to VDOT and MPO users.
  • Transportation and environmental policy: Coauthoring methodological work on emissions-investment allocation under uncertainty and connectivity leakage under sustainable aviation fuel mandates.
  • Energy systems: Extending a deep reinforcement learning framework for UVA’s Fontaine Central Energy Plant toward sustainability-aware control and publication.
  • Statistical methods: Interested in how high-resolution infrastructure data can preserve meaningful local context while still supporting reliable estimation and decision-making.

Long-term direction

I plan to pursue Ph.D. training to lead applied infrastructure research in government, national laboratories, research institutes, or industry. I am especially interested in transportation, energy infrastructure, grid resilience, decarbonization, and public-sector decision support.
